Post New sub-forums created

There are two new sub-forums in the Political Parties, Campaigns & Elections section of the board. These new sub-forums are dedicated to discussions regarding the November 2008 Presidential election - one is titled Obama/Biden and the other is titled McCain/Palin.

We want to thank everyone for your patience as we got this set up. We are expecting a busy political season this election year. Our post count, new thread count, new membership all continue to rise and in some cases the numbers have more then doubled.

At this time we would also like to thank everyone for your continued support of USPO.

Re: New sub-forums created

You guys really need to stop splitting forums. It drives traffic away. People want to be in sections where there is traffic. I do not like the new change at all and I urge you to reconsider it.

Oh, come on Danny. You have no idea whether or not it drives traffic away.

You also have no idea what it's like behind the scenes here, and what a pain in the ass it is to keep everything in order. I can only imagine.

I don't think traffic is nearly as important as quality and having huge amounts of partisan attack threads clogging up other sections does not lead to better quality.

Re: New sub-forums created

The EXCITING news is that with the exception of May 7, 2007, we are seeing new posts that rivil 2004-2005. How many members do we have that joined around that time and remember how happening the place was? I'm talking 1300+ a day during the week and 1000+ on the weekends. The most ever recorded posts was the last presidential election with 1787 new posts and that's what we are gearing up for. The problem we've had over the last several days with this volume of posting is the number of threads getting buried - if you leave one day and come back the next you're thread is lost. Our goal is to promote discussions and if you are interested in discussing how candidate XYZ rocks, then we want your thread on the front page and the best way to do that is to give each candidate their own forum.

BTW, brownie points to anyone who can tell me what happened May 7, 2007, for the post count to be so high. Was that the day we hit 1,000,000 posts?

ETA: nope...we hit 1,000,000 on 07-19-07. What in the world happened May 7, 2007?

Re: New sub-forums created

Didn't George Bush go to visit the Queen of England or something? (I may have got my dates wrong though).

Then it back to the normal ups and downs. Anyways, now that I've once again taken a thread way off track. My main point is we are seeing a significant increase in posting traffic. I would love to break that 2004 record and I really wouldn't be surprised if we did

Re: New sub-forums created

I think Tony Blair announced the date of his exit as PM around that time and that may have been it, and then as it died down the topic disappeared then it went back to normal? was there a drastic increase on June 25th or so through 28th too?

Re: New sub-forums created

That may be it, but it may well be co-incidental too, i'm just hazzarding an guess.

That is kind of good to see though, shows a kind of "global" vision of some of the members and a broad-ranging membership of the forum in many ways.

Re: New sub-forums created

I looked up past NPR news programs from those days and nothing really jumps out at me.

Re: New sub-forums created

Hmmm the June bump at the end may have been due to a terror attack that was attempted at British airports when Brown first took the office of PM, none the less you seem happy with the posts and visitors the forum is generating atm so all seems well.
