Also worked in and around DC as well. It's really pretty when you get into the outlying areas.

Yes. The mid-Atlantic area is very pretty. I was born in Toledo - don't remember it at all as my family moved to Ann Arbor when I was about a year old.

Actually, I couldn't make a boiler if my life depended on it. But I am a diehard Purdue Boilermaker fan because that was my school.

Some of the Ann Arbor area reminds me of Norman Rockwells paintings of typical American Life.

Don't let that fool you. I doubt Norman Rockwell would have included a depiction Ann Arbor's annual Hash Bash in one of his paintings. But it is a nice town. It's been a long time since I lived in that town, though.

Hello everyone,

I go by Mal. You all can call me whatever you want but I answer to Mal. Trying not to be cliche here.........well, I'm unpredictable. Sometimes I want to examine an issue using strict critical reasoning skills and source evaluations...and sometimes I'll just engage in hopefully humorous satire.

My favorite targets for potentially "over the top" criticism are Karl Rove, Rupert Murdoch, and Sarah Palin.

Another member from the Left Coast.

Good to meet someone with whom I'm bound to argue heatedly. It's always nice to meet those who'll challenge my beliefs and make me study why I think the things I do. I look forward to seeing you and exchanging ideas on the boards!

Thanks so much B Tallmadge. How is the balance on this site? Does it lean any one way Conservative VS Liberal?

From what I've seen, this site has always been pretty balanced, and it still is today. Of course, you'll hear that it's biased one way or the other from some members, but I've never found that to be true.

Oh, and welcome aboard.

That's one of the great things about Larry McMurtry. He has so many great quotes to choose from.

For whatever reason, I tend to attract discussion with Liberal-minded folks. I am probably more Right than Left, but I'll let you scan back to my own introduction and see which issues are where for me.

The site definitely has its conservatives, and they are for the most part well-mannered and well-informed. Same with many of the liberals here. As with all internet forums (I'm afraid), there are some trolls who love nothing more than to instigate endless, circular, idiotic arguments as well, but you'll see who they are soon enough. They are not hard to spot.

I think the balance in terms of membership is probably a close split, but as I said, I tend to attract discussion with my opposites more than my similars. I guess that's the way it goes, though. A discussion that starts with a point and ends with a chorus of "I agree!" from a dozen people gets pretty dull. For the most part, you'll get jumped on by four or five people who disagree, and the people who agree with you will let you handle yourself until it looks like the swarm is growing too great. Personally, I love the mental workout.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

My name is Frank, im 38, married and the father of 5 children. And yes before you ask, all from the same woman... I live in NW Arkansas, which is just gorgeous during the fall.

I consider myself an average Joe, nothing super special about me, but not so stagnant that moss is growing on one side of me.

I have been a small business owner most of my life, but currently and for the past 2 years work for a company as their senior accounts manager.

Politically, I like to referee to myself as in alignment with the "pissed off people".

I find that I detest professional politicians that are out for just helping themselves, and forget their constituents. So I vote for who I think will make the best difference in helping the average American public. Ya know, the average Joes and Janes like me.

Thats me in a nutshell. Ohh, did I mention I like long walks on the beach...

I am 42 layed off right now. I am an independent I am upset with both obama and mccain. I think economy wise the us is heading for a big down fall and there is not to much a president can do about it. I think all the power is in the house and the senate

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

My name's Jon Anderson, and I'm from Vancouver, WA. I'm 14 years old, living with my mom, dad, and brother. I find myself unique because unlike most people who can't vote, I actually care about what's going to happen. I think that this election could determine the fate of the world itself.

I'm pretty much as conservative as they come, and you'll find it hard to get me to change my mind about anything. I seem to have more knowledge on the Middle East then anyone I've ever met, and that includes my teachers. I enjoy the looks on their faces when I first explained the concept of Mahdism. Outside of foreign policy, I'm not an expert on any type of politics, although I do know a few scattered facts.

I got tired of being so outnumbered by Canadian Liberals in a hockey forum's political discussion threads, so joined up here. I'd just like to say one thing: don't count me out just 'cause of my age. I'm probably more intelligent than you think.
