Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi I'm icebreaker, and I just want to share my views on US Politics.

I just like to give an opinion that we should do our best to fight against recession!

Newbie reporting aboard with some inchoate notions that he favors a new isolationism.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Greetings all, I go by the online call sign of Commodore. I'm a fresh refugee from another board that decided that politics was too much of a distraction. Not that I blame them, its a volatile and passionate subject that either brings out the best or worst in people, that tends to spill over in some. I make a point not to make it personal, but I call them as I see them.

I am personally a social conservative out of my upbringing and my own religious believes, and while I do have libertarian tendencies in some regards I don't like to see society suffer as a result of personal indulgences.

I am politically a strange hybrid of conservative/libertarian/nationalist, putting the latter above all. I view the American progressive as a dangerous threat to the personal liberties on which this nation was founded, and the current crop of conservatives either lacking the imagination to apply their Constitutionally founded principles to the issues of the day or too willing to brush them aside with authoritarian muscle. All in all, far too much social engineering were the government has no business and far too little real engineering were they do.

I have an interest in science and engineering, building and agriculture, particularly all things DIY and sustainably or locally produced. Not so much for environmental reasons, though I like to be able to enjoy the outdoors and preserve natural processes, but because I believe the more personal knowledge we gain and can share the better this life will be and the more take out of this life the better. I have a particular interest in computers, history, military history, and space exploration.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi Everyone! I have just signed up to participate here after becoming a bit bored with another forum. I'm 48, female, married mother of 2 grown sons. I live in Florida but I am from NY state. I am disabled so the Internet is my window on the world. I used to be completely disinterested in politics (in my early adult years) but the Bush administration changed all that. I am a liberal and my husband is conservative. Imagine the heated exchanges here at my house! My other interests are Walt Disney World, movies, Abraham Lincoln and my step-grandchildren. I look forward to reading everyone's views and learning things from both ends of the political spectrum.

Wow. Another woman. Not many around here. Welcome, but be careful if you have any feminist leanings.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Pay no attention lesherb.
I know of plenty of women here, and no one really knows who is male/female as many people do not place that in their profile.
You are welcome here/

Yeah of people telling you to be afraid of something where there is no reason to.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

I'd be more worried about being youthful than female.

Eta: not that that is a pervasive problem.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Oh gosh I'm young and female lol! 23 year old female from Florida. I'm mainly here to learn, read, and post my opinion when I feel the need. I'll probably lurk for a good bit until I feel relatively informed though.

Other tidbits about me, I'm engaged, ride horses, enjoy gardening and photography and listening to good music.

If you feel inclined - we have a member photo gallery area where people place their photos.... My Photo Gallery - Scenery

There are also member profile photos in here...so you may have to poke around to find the good stuff.

Whats up forum! New from Lansing, Michigan. I haven't really done many of these things before, but I'm excited for some good debate!

Looking forward...
