Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi, I'm Hellaeric09 (obviously not my real name, but there you go).
I'm a freelance writer who's currently attending college for an associate's degree in Visual Communications. Soon, I hope to achieve a bachelor's degree in game design. I'm also planning to join the Navy's nuke program. I call myself a Moderate because I hold an almost equal amount of Conservative and Republican ideals. I'm definately a democrat, though. I do support Obama, but i don't think he's the Second Coming. I am Christian, but I support abortion and gay rights. I also will fight for my Second Amendment rights and the right for Talk Radio to stay on the air, even though I don't agree with most of what he says I love to debate and if someone can prove me wrong, I will change my opinion because i believe in the truthOkay, I'm done here and I'm ready to start posting! |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi.
A little about myself is in order, I think. I go by a few nicknames, such as "blondie," You can probably guess what my posts are going to be about from all this... I started out as a liberal who was angry at the corruption in the world, how people could blindly turn their backs, how spoiled many of my classmates were and how they didn't understand how bad things really were abroad. Since then, I've put a little bit more under my belt as far as traveling abroad, and I've come to realize a few unpleasant facts that were hard for me to swallow. It's made me a fair amount more moderate, and yet a lot less tolerant of conservative and liberal extremes. I dislike a fair number of things about the society that I live in. I no longer can identify as either liberal or conservative. Personally, I'd have rather backed a McCain/Liberman ticket, but I'm quite fond of the Obama administration too, and even volunteered to help them beat Sarah Palin, who frankly is an embarrassment to this country. What I dislike the most about our culture at the moment is our intolerance of anyone who is different. Someone with a different playing style, a different way of getting things accomplished that is equally valid... I think our culture is used to there being only one right answer and it can shoot us in the foot because it leaves us blind to things that those who can think differently can see brilliantly. I'm not talking about people with disabilities, I'm talking about people who have more or less chosen to think differently. "Strange" can be good, and I wish more people saw that, and it depresses me that many people do not, because I think the world could be a genuinely better place for more diversity of thought. I think that maybe we have an idea of different being bad because it brings to mind someone with a sort of disorder. I'm talking more about ingenuity that smacks of originality. I think that America has spent a lot of money over a long period of time on a peacetime army, and while our military is certainly impressive, it is draining vital resources that this country needs to survive. Having been abroad to more countries recently, I think that upgrading the rail systems, bridges, constructing new green power plants and giving huge vouchers for home green technology (double paned glass, solar panels on roofs, etc.) should have been implemented years ago. I've seen some technological marvels abroad that are considered commonplace there, that seem like science fiction in America. I think that the disparity has given rise to a sort of "we may be comparatively living in huts but we can blow up your technological marvels," sort of ego, and I have to say that I am not exactly comfortable going around with such a mentality. It's time for some new ideas, and I'm always willing to hear yours (PM me to look at a topic with a new idea for the country and I'll gladly give it a look). My views on religion aren't really political so I'll leave them out of here. Thank you. ~Shpad |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi,
I'm scarecrow, and Bulldog, I agree about the differences between conservatives here and there. The republican party, who used to represent true conservatism, has been hijacked by Christian fanatics who want to inject religion into politics, which has never worked to a country's advantage as we see daily in the theocracies of the Middle East. George Bush used the Christian fanatics to get elected. He is about as Christian as my dog.I lean more to the liberal line of thinking, but am not in favor of abortion or wars for anything but self defense... killing is killing. But, I do respect the fact that people think differently in a multicultural society and it is the woman's body and her choice, not the State's. To some, pro-choice is a one or all for abortion, but pro-choice is not pro-abortion. |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hello:
PredFan here checking in. PredFan comes from being a long-time fan of the Orlando Predators of the Arena Football League (We had the name before the hockey team did). Politically, I'm right wing mostly except I'm pro choice. I'm for freedom and liberty accross the board. Small government, states rights, and free markets. I have a license to carry a concealed weapon in the state of Florida and do so. I come here to learn and network with other conservatives. I am interested in the liberal point of view only out of morbid curiosity for the most part. I'm a medical professional and have been for 25 years now. I served in the US Navy for 4 years from 1976 to 1980. I have 3 daughters Jennifer, Rachel, and Suzanne, and 2 step-daughters Margot and Bethany. Permission to come aboard. |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi
I'm Alexander, and I grew up in London, England. My mother's family are socialists and my father's family are conservatives... so I turned out a liberal. You must remember this is all in the British sense though. I shall translate into American - "my Mom's a commie, my Dad's a moderate and I'm somewhere in the middle". I believe in the power of the free market, federalism in Europe, the 10th Amendment, absolute freedom of speech and expression, civil liberties.I am pro-choice, think the government should provide better and broader standards of education and health care, against school prayer but pro-freedom to pray in school, I'm sceptical about the 2nd Amendment but believe in the necessity of constitutionalism and pre-political rights. I like small government, democratisation of the markets, and low taxes. I'm for the legalisation of Cannabis, against Sarah Palin in all her forms and a fervent believer in the necessity of the Supreme Court, scepticism and oversight of government. I also like cheap american beers (Budweiser), long nights at the pub, baseball (Phillies) and NFL. I am a student at the University of Aberdeen in Scotland, reading Politics and International Relations. My ambition upon graduation is to find a way to fund a US law degree or a masters in politics, and eventually become a US citizen. I am a member of the Liberal Democrats in the UK, have sympathies with old republican economics and with the democrats on most other issues due to the politicisation of religion in America. I was 19 last week.
