Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Ok.... I am a 15 year old student at the Royal Grammar School who lives just outside of London in England, although I am an American citizen. I am very interested in politics and feel that the younger generations should be more politically aware.

In my spare time I play the French Horn the Cello and the piano, and am also an avid Rugby player and sailor.

A sailor, that is a wonderful quality.

This place is great! I actually lost the URL to that other dump. Hope I never get it back.
You had 3300 posts in a place that was a dump?! You're a patient man, Aarstad....

This is the dump where I have 3300+ posts - Don't know about that other one

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi everyone!

I am 54 years young , fourth time married, 4 children, stayed inside Europe all my life.
Lived in Sweden and Russia, and now I live in Finland.
- I believe that it is everyones obligation to try to speak with each other. We are living very dangerous times.
- I've been writing here for awhile, and seen that here are nice people, mostly.
- I posted to another site for some year, but I did not like it there. There was some guys that had strange ideas, because I posted from Russia - go and figure.
- Then I moved to another site, but there was many guys that had no real arguments, just these 2-line-comments, etc.
- After this I was writing in a site, but they banned my friend from USA, so I left also. The banning was a very dubious thing to do toward him.
- Actually we were many guys just searching for some site, where "the roof is high, and the ceiling high. This does not mean that I or anyone else of us are shouting or anything like that.

Well, I found this site through a searching machine, but I do not remember how I found the searching machine in the first place.

I have learned English by myself, at school I studied Swedish, which is my mother tongue, Finnish, Latin and German.
Russian, which I now speak at home, because my wife is Russian, I learned the traditional way: just lots of vodka in the restaurant with the Russian girls.

I have also studied Estonian and Dutch, but somehow I feel that at later years I do not learn so fast, so I skipped these quite soon.

My belief is that we need a total change of acting, as consumers, as well as the work we are doing. Otherwise we will end in a big fight about energy. This is a very long story, and I rant about some other time.

Other beliefs of mine is that we need more international armies, like that one we have in Afghanistan. (28 or 38 countries contributing, I do not remember exactly). We also need to help all the poor countries with what they need so that they can help themselves.
The main thing is that when the world, not only the industrialized countries, takes really over in the Net, there will be a lot of questions to all of us.

And we need to keep Internet alive, just as media. I get more information by crosschecking in internet, than any other media, like TV or news-papers.
I do not know if I am the only one, but I have heard that the Internet will crash within a few years. That the virus-makers etc., will get everything so secured that You can not post anything without massive fire-walls and that kind of stuff. And then comes these new sencor-programs.

Enough of ranting,

I'll be back later.

Well, Henry said,

So I thought I'd try to be funny, guess I failed.

Thanks for the congrats.

Henry, welcome to the board. I'm sure you will find many uh... spirited debates here. Things may get a little heated at times but I haven't found anybody unwilling to accept my apology when making an ass out of myself, or unwilling to extend their own.

Don't worry Reason, I guessed that You were relating to the two-liner as a joke.
Hopefully nobody thinks that I am against two- or three-liners.
But if a supposed debate works as a chat, without sources etc., well - It does not work at all.

For me is quite important that we talk over the whole world. If the politics talks would hit 2%, I think no newsmedia could anymore lie to us.
Because it does.

The other thing is, that I can not always be right, because what would I get from the debates, if I already know everything?
I get tons of facts, from left and right. But I think that in a debate "all five sides of the coin" is looked through and we come quite near the truth.
The truth can mean different things to different people, but usually we come nearer it.
And, as You said Reason, we have easy to apoligize if we sometimes are really badly mistaken.
You are the first person that has ever said that, and it feels nice!

Btw. One nice person at some board said:
"We should invent a religion that tells that everyone is born again but to a different skin colour."

That really hit me. I think I make a slogan of it here. Signed as 'unknown nice young person on an Am.discussion board'

Re: And now.. for something completely different!!!

I'm a 28 year old political/sports junkie living and working in Boston, Massachusetts and a lifetime resident of the Bay State.

The only American politican that I remotely trust is Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas).

This site appealed to me because of the apparant lack of political censorship.
