Where YOU went wrong was being principled and trying to understand an unprincipled business, politics. The Republicans finally learned the old liberal trick of buying votes. Once that occurred, it was "Katey bar the door!"

Welcome to our nightmare.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

I am mainly interested in the Middle East and how most Arabs, Muslims and any one else perceives the USA in relation to their own society and nation.

These are interesting times. A lot of scape goating is going on.

Beneath the surface, a clash between Fundamental Islam and corrupt Arab regimes has turned into a clash between Islam and the west, mainly the USA.

Of course for some, all arguements lead to Israel. But my world does not revolve around Palestine, the Jews or the Holy Land.

Excellent phraseology my friend, it could only be improved with a wee bit of alliteration to make it truly sublime!

Not really, a Jihad is a holy cause, not necisarily a war. the western media has twisted it as such. There is a word for Holy war in arabic, but I forget...

ji·had also je·had (jĭ-häd')
n.
A Muslim holy war or spiritual struggle against infidels.
A crusade or struggle: “The war against smoking is turning into a jihad against people who smoke” (Fortune).
From http://www.answers.com/topic/jihad

I suppose it doesn't need to entail "violence" but the connotation of the word is clearly one of hostility and aggression based on religious intolerance.

Violence there is, since violence is part of monotheists.
Still jihad does not imply agression since it is combat effort.

*shrug* I heard a muslim girl on NPR talking about it. I forget all what she said, but she presented a really good case. So Jihad4Peace isn't really a paradox, but something pretty sweet.

Good gosh, doesn't ANYONE study history at all? Conservatives were 'buying' votes back in Greco-Roman times a couple thousand years ago. Does the old "bread & circuses" expression not mean anything to you? Yeah, "liberals" invented this "trick" alright.

Partisanship rots people's brains - no doubt of that.

Earth to Mad Michael...The topic was American Republicans, not Romans or Greeks.

Exclamation Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Further information for those 'Interested' in Talahi.

I loathe and despise the brand of Conservatism that we are enduring. Thank my Higher Power I won't have to take much more of it--Boomer--it has never been good--Eisenhower years to Reagan Years and now the Hannitized Era.

I support President Bush but I think his friends have made deals with the Divvil and they are going to H@LL. No IFS, ANDS or MAYBES.

I'm going to send a few there ASAP---contacting an attorney on Monday--a Jewish attorney who understands Justice and what will not be tolerated in this country--the Raping of America by Corporate America.

Nice to meet you all.

FYI--I am a Moderate with a sizable Liberal streak. Moderate Conservatives may speak to me the rest of you can start packing your air conditioners.

Not kidding in the slightest. I have had enough 'S' from posters on the internet and if you start with me I will request that the Moderator intervene.

Just so you know--'How I Am'. Otherwise we will get along fine. Understand my boundaries--if you Please.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Unless there is a violation of the rules the mods won't intervene. I think you can count on that if your meaning is to restrict who responds to your posts. Open forums and all that.

I am not a moderator here here but have been for years and that's pretty much the way it is in most forums.

Anyway, a big hello to ya.

You were the one who said liberals invented that trick - I was pointing out that trick is thousands of years old.

The world was not invented in 1776.

Nope, the world was invented in 1789 when the Constitution was ratified.
