Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

So you're saying you're not inherrantly (even if you don't want to be) prejudice against anybody?

Well isn't everbody inherantly prejudice anyway?

I guess what i'm saying is that i have more animosity toward them than i would otherwise to someone else whose views i disagreed with. Its fine to have differences of opinions and disagree on policy but its i dunno something about the way it happens with Liberals that offsets me.
I find that people usually dislike people that are most like them.

Probably to a degree. The propensity to 'prejudge' probably exists on the instinctual level - for sizing up threats and such. It is certainly natural to be more afraid of a hulking 7 foot tall man than it is to be afraid of a petite 5 foot tall woman.

However, what I don't think is natural is the tendency to assume that someone is not worth talking to or knowing because he/she comes from a certain ethnic background, is of a certain race, or subscribes to a particular philosophy. I try never to intellectually prejudge anyone I meet.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Yeah that is all good and quite well in theory but never generally works that way in practice.

I try not to be to racist to people for reasons of race or ethnic background but i have i'll admit in my time slagged of black people and call them nigga's and dark whores and stuff but i was much younger then. For most that sort of stuff just comes out in rage but scarily in my case its quite calculated and said in the way to maximise the hurt level. That's why like sometimes i won't say the most offensive thing but it will be more hurtful than just saying you fucking this or you fucking that.

I'm not prejudiced towards liberals. I just found that I was allergic to them. Every time I ate one alive, I broke out in a rash.

I'm glad you said that, Scribbler. I was reading the thread and wondering if I had the right place.

I'm Woodmonkey and I've been looking for a good place to discuss issues and politics and this seems like a good one, especially after I read the forum rules.

I live in the Northwest, USA, have three grown kids and find that I like forums. Anything else you want to know, just ask and I ... might ... answer!

So far no ones accused me of being weak hearted, just stubborn and opinionated.

My son is the oldest at 36 and in the Oregon National Guard, my middle daughter is 32 and a paramedic. My baby (she hates that) is 28 and a home visit nurse. How about yours?

Hi, I am a 29 year old foreign policy analyst for a think tank in DC, but live and work from Texas. I specialize in both Eastern Bloc and Middle Eastern/South Central Asian politics. I look forward to discussing a wide variety of topics here, debate, and learn.
