Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi, my name is ryan and i am a 28 year old University of Michigan employee. I have a BS degree in journalism from Eastern Michigan University which is located in nearby Ypsilanti, MI.
I am a staunch moderate, which means my political base is a amalgation of traditional and progressive viewpoints. I am a meateater, who is against hunting, A patriotic american, who detests mindless jingoism, a pro choice person who detests abortion. I don't hate George Bush, but nor do I support the war in Iraq or his views on the environment, abortion, gay marriage, and a plethora of other subjects. I believe that ideologues are the biggest threat to the world--religious, secular, left, right, what have you. Extremism can, has, and always will be fuel for violent conflict. Hence, my utter contempt for ideologues of all stripes. I am a proud american, who really hates the american bashing which goes on. Sure, we have done alot of stupid and immoral things, but so has every "civilized" nation. I am not a person who believes in American Exceptionalism. My belief is that while we are a powerful nation that has done many great things, we are still the equal of the least powerful country in the world. I do not believe in supremacy in any fashion. I believe that we are all equal. My heroes are Martin Luther King, Abraham Lincoln, Winston Churchill, and my father and grandfather. My family becomes before everything else. I ama partisan when it comes to my family, so I suppose my handle isn't accurate in that regard.

I suppose it depends on what you call "bashing". I'm sure you've seen it before, where you have people calling it "bashing" when it is merely criticism. We DO have bashing here but not nearly as much as you would be led to believe by some. Again, welcome.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Well, I've moved. After many decades in the Southern New England area, I am now in south Arkansas. We'll see if it makes any difference in my political beliefs. Already, I see more opposite views being expressed in letters to the editor than New England newspapers allowed.
Although I am only two months from 69 years of age, I am still working, so as not to get bored. I run two logging trucks (when they both work and the drivers show up) and drive when necessary. I usually make my comments in one of the political threads, and I try to be true to my upbringing, instead of instigating far-out remarks. I hope that I contribute thoughtful and factual comments to the general discourse. |

I'm 17 and a Junior in Minnesota. I joined this because of the lack of diversified, intelligent political conversation at home and at school.

Hello
My name is Frieda and I'm from Old Europe, from Germany . In former times I worked as a guitar teacher in the afternoons and evenings, and some years as a secretary in the mornings, too. 12 years ago I got twins, a boy and a girl, an this finished any working. Since some years I'm looking for work but its very difficult here. I still don't want to work in the afternoons as the children come home from school at noon and if there is nobody at home they would sit and watch TV all the time. Since about 2001 I'm very amazed by the new American way to act in the world ( / ) and since long I really wanted to speak with some American people how they feel about their government. I really would like to understand a little bit more of America and American people.Of course, if someone is interested I would like to explain how I think. As far as I have already seen in this forum there are American people thinking just the same way. I would be very pleased, too, to learn something about our neighbours (France) here and other interesting people and countries. Have a nice day! Frieda |
