Well HELLO Mister Fancy-Pants!

Sorry, can't help but say that whenever someone talks about going to a nice college.

Yeah, its alright. Its a small liberal arts college but its growing, hence the name change to "university" status

But yeah, it's not a very common mix, especially here in VA.
Hell, in VA, a compassionate conservative is the same as a bleeding heart liberal.

Heidelberg was an interesting city. I especially loved the Heidelberg Castle. I was surprised at the number of Asians living there, though. What's the attraction for them?

Maybe if you could post a bigger photo, it would be easier to see the OWNED in the corner.

Smile Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi!

I am very new to this, but my frustration with current events has made me want to be more involved. This is actually the first post I have ever made to a bulletin board...so forgive me if I make mistakes.

I am a 38 Year Old, Gay, Progressive man living in West Hollywood, California. Political discourse at times takes on a very personal dimention for me, as I consider myself to be a member of a group which is still persecuted in the United States, and treated by society as "second-class" citizens. I live with my fiance (we are planning to have a ceremony next October), and both he and I work for a large entertainment company.

I'm hoping to find some enlightened discourse here, one not based in ad hominym arguement or cheap shots, though that seems difficult given the current political climate. I'm very interested in opposing viewpoints... and I hope for the most part that people tend to be respectful here.

Oh, by the way, you can call me Tommy .

Thanks for your attention! I'll be posting again soon.

I'm sure that as long as you don't come off as another smug, anti-Christian gay crusader, you'll get respected.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hello, my name is Siva. I'm a 34 y/o IT gal that hates work but loves to do stuff on my own. I love music and dancing, great food, and great sex!

I was born in the US, but I have no allegiance toward the US or any other country, nor do I practice any theistic religion.

I also believe in relative morality, i. e. that there are no absolute rights and wrongs. In fact, the terms "right" and "wrong" are purely subjective, just like "good" and "bad" or "pretty" and "ugly."

The only thing I believe in is logic and tangible evidence. No evidence, no reason, no claim--period.

I live by Tim Leary's mantra "Turn on, tune in, drop out." In other words, I'm immune to the seductive effects of mainstream media and popular ideology, and so, among other things, I can't be easily lied to, ha!

I'm also a strong believer in the notion that knowledge of human psychology, particularly a knowledge of the human capacity for fear, is a powerful asset. Fear is the modern day tool for achieving political goals. If you know how to scare people, you can do anything.

(think about the guy that's succesfully doing that right now!)

Hence, to make changes in the world, one must not just have a basic understanding of global economics and foreign cultures; he must also know how to manipulate people's minds, esp. through fear.

Politically, I'm closest to the Libertarian Party (you probably guessed), but I'm also not Libertarian because I don't believe state and local govts. are necessarily worse than private enterprise. Corrupt, inefficient bureacracies are found in the private sector as well as in governments. In fact, if you think about it, there is no difference between a private firm and a govt., except that govts. usu. steal money from individuals (i. e. taxes).

I've already a posted some stuff to this group. Anyway, that's all for now.
