Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

I live in Toronto, Canada. Was raised near Niagara Falls. I am an actor. My mother's side is American, my father's side French Canadian. To many, that makes me stubborn and pushy(and maybe not in that order). And it's true

I love movies and baseball and politics. Some of my favorite films are Pleasantville, Grand Canyon, City of God, Waking Life, and Field of Dreams.

Favorite Political Films include JFK, Nixon, Fog of War, the Manchurian Candidate, the Contender, and Traffic...just to name a few.

I love the music of Joni Mitchell more than any other. She touches life more honestly than any other popular musician of her time. I like Bill Maher's voice as a political commentator. I don't think there is any other who challenges our institutions and our subtle prejudices with more wit and acute observation.

Politically, I'm sort of a "Third Way" type like Bill Clinton, John McCain, Jim Jeffords, and Jesse Ventura. The kind that will vote with the other side to get things done instead of clinging to the cemented ideologies that get in the way with extreme lefties and righties. Economically, I believe that gov't should hold itself to the same standards that a family should, which is: live within your means, support the other members when they need it, and save a little for a rainy day. Socially, I am against the death penalty, for a woman's right to govern her own body, for technology and innovation when it comes to energy(I prefer renewable sources of energy instead of the one's that will kill us in the end), for gov't oversight of health care instead of privatization, and for same-sex unions that give gays and lesbians the same protections and benefits under the law that us straights enjoy(I guess you can tell that I am for keeping church and state seperated).

So far, I have enjoyed my time at this forum immensely. I love that name-calling is rare here. This is quickly becoming one of my favorite sites. Do you ever notice that you become yourself as a driver when your at this site? You start sighing, or grunting, and sometimes laughing right out loud. A couple of times I have even caught myself waving my hands up in the air in protest of what I've just read. Anyway, love the dialogue, love the debate...especially when it's someone who keeps challenging me.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi,

I founds the site with a google search.

I'm an ex-patriot Australian currently working in Massachusetts on an exchange visa as a research fellow.

I'm an avid political junkie. I love the game. I'm a democrat supporter (or more precisely a GOP opposer). In Australian politics I support the Australian Labor Party (the progressive party).

Nice to meet you all.

I am an ex-patriated Idahoan living in Washington. Always wanted to see the world. I have no political affiliations but the reasons why could cause a real stir so I will leave that out of here. I take a great interest in politics and government particulary areas of constitutional interpretation (love the Supreme Court) and feel it is our civil (or would it be civic?) responsibility to be aware of our government and its actions. I think this goes for any countries citizenship in respect to their governments. As for all of the comments on what we are doing wrong in this country I can only quote from the Lion King "It may not not look like much but it's home. If I don't fight for it who will?"

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

My name is Neal van der Stelt (yes that's dutch -- of zoid
Holland)..
I'm kind of cocky sometimes but I get along with people
of every nationality and yes I'm a mut born in San Jose, CA USA..
One of my grandmothers family came from England and her mother
was born on the ship coming over here and she is a direct decendant
of Queen Elizabeth so you can say I'm very distant royalty..
I'm very prudent and have always been known for having
manors especially to woman..

I'm a BCO for a fortune 500 company called Landstar -- I'm
in the Ranger division and write my own schedule and paycheck..
Basically I drive a truck for a living lol a real big one though it's over
70 feet in length and I own it too..
Where I work I have the option of hauling
for the military which pays very well in fact were the leading
carrier for the US Marines.. We also have the contract for
Ford and I can get any new Ford car at or below invoice..
I'm basically in the prime of my career and could work for any
company in the trucking industry with the flawless
performance record I have.

I guess I'm most interested in civil rights, independance, and
freedom when it comes to politics and I wish we could all get along.
I enjoy lot's of things other than politics and it's not
like my most knowledgable subject.. I hate violence, arguing,
drugs, and smoking.. I'm a beach bum at
heart and would like to buy a beach house someday where
I could get up early in the morning and jog by the fresh air of the sea
-- then enjoy the beautiful sunset over the sea at the end of the day.
Basically I'm very easy going and have always made friends
on a both a friendly and business level -- I describe myself as a breeze
to get along with.. I like dancing music
and romantic music.. I plan on buying an accordion and playing romantic
music by the beach to someone special of coarse..

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Been posting around a little bit before I saw this. I joined this forum because of the fact that I'm seventeen. This might be strange but most 17 year olds aren't interested in what's goin on in the US much less the world. I on the other hand have a great interest in these issues, and would like to do something with my life that affects America indirectly or directly. I lean a little more to the right but am not I blind conservative who doesn't realize that other people can and are right. I am tired of pol's and people like Limbaugh spouting their crap to sheeple and leading them blind, so I'd liek to change that.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Ok here it goes....I'm 34 year old scientist, married, mother of one. I'm a 101% pure-blooded Serb and a 7th generation of Belgrade citizens. Politically, I am what my life experience (YU civil war, NATO bombing, terrorism in Kosovo) made me to be:
- a Serbian patriot and nationalist (many of you would consider me as rather "extreme" or even "xenophobic", but I assure you, it's not the case)
- a fighter for freedom of my country (south part of Serbia, Kosovo, is currently occupied by NATO and KFOR)
- one of the first 50 members of Serbian Radical Party, founded in 1991 by Dr Vojislav Seselj, now the strongest and the most popular political option in Serbia, although our president is currently in Scheveningen detention
- against "New World Order" and all of its quasi-legal institutions such as ICTY (The Hague Tribunal)
- for truth in media (which is the first victim in any war, as we all know)
- criticist of what Unated Nations have became - a puppet in America's hands

My mission on this forum:
1. to spread the truth about Serbs and Serbia, as I see it
2. to make some of you my frinds

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Last night was my first night, never introduced myself, so I guess that would be the thing to do.

I was born in Indiana, and have stayed here all my life. No, I am not a farmer , I worked in IT for 6 years, and now manage a Pre-Press dept. (Printing industry)
I am a registered Democrat, though I admit that is mainly due to my parents, than what I believed in so many years ago.
Now at 39, I consider myself pretty much middle of the road, I to, am appalled at the division in this country, as well as the horrible realtions we now have with the rest of the world. I hope this can be reversed, but that will take some serious time.
Sadly I cannot possibly support Bush, but do not like Kerry either, I see nothing more that the usual rhetoric from him, only more of it.
I wanted Leiberman.
I have been married 15 years, and have two children

Lets see...my great grandfather on my mothers, mother's side was born Dublin and my mother's father was born in the US but both of his parents immigrated to the US...my favorite Irish group (I assume you mean musical) is The Clancy Brothers and Tommy Makem, There were my father's favorite so I grew up on them...I have no political affiliation for now I will just say it is because I don't believe it should matter were a good idea or person comes from...This is is the killer...I have no religion at all...No pictures of the Pope or Sacred Hearts and the only pictures on my wall are pictures of my kids...But if I ask real nice can I keep the tricolour? After all I do care enough about my Irish heritage that I am trying to learn.
