Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
I've been lurking here a bit for the past few weeks ever since someone commented on the page in a Rolling Stones message board I'm a part of. I've been interested in trying to find a politics/current events community for a long time. Whether or not I've found the right one remains to be seen.
I'm a 27-year-old salesman for a large German/European CCTV distributor. I'm originally from the U.S. - Ohio to be exact - and, after graduating with a degree in Journalism from OSU about five years ago I decided to come to Germany for awhile to gain experience, etc. I'm a big fan of music - Americana and roots rock, mostly. Bands like the Allman Brothers Band, the Rolling Stones, Ryan Adams, etc. I don't know where I stand politically. I don't know how you call it at least. I'd say that, while many of my values, morals and beliefs are conservative, I'm open to accepting more liberal and libertarian ideas. Examples? 01.) I'm not for abortion, but I support a woman's right to make her own decision. 02.) I'm not against homosexuality but believe it's goes against the rules of biology, nature and my values. I exercise my belief by not being gay. What you do is your business. 03.) I believe in human rights, but more importantly the mutual respect of human rights. If someone denies the human rights of others, they should be denied their own. 04.) I love my home country (am actually getting up early tomorrow morning to go back to visit for a couple of weeks) and, while I realize the Bush administration has blundered in many areas, I know what my country is about and what it's like to grow up in the society it has spawned and I have no regrets. 05.) The anti-Americanism and two-faced actions and ideas I've witnessed since being in Germany have reinforced my desire to want to return to America. While everybody seems to be ready to criticize, they're never seem ready, willing or able to help or offer constructive or creative suggestions. 06.) I'm not necessarily pro-War, but I'm also not pro-Appeasement and sitting around with your thumb in your arse while your known enemy is plotting your demise. 07.) I support but despise socialism at the same time. I don't think it's right to punish the successful for being successful in order to let a large amount of deadbeats (and there are a lot of them) live a life of luxury using my tax dollars. I'm also not for allowing the poor to live destitute lives with no future. 08.) I believe moderate Muslims and non-violent Muslims should speak out and take a stand against extremism just as I would expect my American brothers and sisters to speak out against the government if they see it fit. Remaining silent is, for me, guilty by association, especially when these fundamentalists are tarnishing the image the Western World has of them. I could easily dimiss the Bush administration as something I'm not associated with but I can't. It's my country and my government. I have been afforded the right to speak out and, if I feel I should, I will. 09.) I'm dissappointed in the amount of hate that I see on this board and the amount of Europeans, for example, who seem to have come to this community in order to rag on the U.S.A. I've yet to have seen a real objective post criticizing the U.S.A. It's all bad bad bad (why are Americans not free, etc.). 10.) I thank you for allowing me to express my views here and hope to be able to take part in many of the day-to-day discussions. Thanks and peace out, Electric Duane |

On a lighter note, I'm heading to Sindelfingen on Tuesday. Anything worth seeing in the Stuttgart area? I'll only be there for a couple of days, but I should have a few hours here and there to kill. JP

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
G'day I'm Francis and I'm from the "Land Down Under" officially known as Australia.
I was born in Olongapo City, Philippines however, when I was 2 years old my family and I moved to Sydney Australia. Hence, I've pretty much lived in Australia most of my life. I am currently in my last semester at the University of New South Wales, Sydney, Australia. I am doing a Bachelor of Arts degree majoring in Politics and Economics. In terms of Politics I am interested in Filipino and Australian Foreign and Economic Policy, ASEAN - Association of South East Asian Nations and Latin America. In terms of Economics my interest is into Economic Development. Generally speaking politically and economically to describe myself I am a Keynesian. However, in terms of Social Policy I would fall under a right wing side. This is my first post. I am very excited because I love discussion forums and finally I have found a political forum. For those who are wondering the meaning of my username, "Saskibaloia" the word means "basketball" in the Basque Language. The Basque Languague known as Euskadi is the language of the Basque people (obviously) and these Basque people are located near the Pyrenees mountains in the north-east of Spain and the south-west part of France. The reason for this word used by me is that I was a former exchange student who studied in Bilbao, Spain. Bilbao is a major city in the Basque region of Spain and was a former major industrial city of Spain. In addition, I love playing and watching basketball. Thus the username, "Saskibaloia".

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi! I don't give out my real name in public forums, due to some bad experiences in the past doing such things, but most of my online friends call me "Michelene" (pronounced Michael-een). I like to collect swords, comic books, and scary movies. I play in political simulation games in my spare time, too. I'm about as conservative as a person gets, but I have friends who are very liberal.
I joined this group in the hopes of broadening my political viewpoints somewhat, or to at least make a couple new friends! I look forward to talking/debating everyone.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
I'm CapitalistGOP, and I am a fairly conservative Republican from the United States with a dash of libertarianism. I think that about every political ideology has something to offer.
I read nonfiction books, world events, and that sort of thing. Pleased to meet you all. |
