Libertarian- even though as a party I think they could do better than they currently are. Jeffersonian liberals are in favor of some (although very small) government welfare, which is against my political beliefs. I believe some call my political views minarchist. I hope that helps.

Other than education, what?

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Education is actually what I'm referring to. Sorry, I should have just said that.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hello People.
I'm 18 years old, and found this site because I needed a place to discuss politics with intelligent people of all political standpoints and opinions. My friends are really intimidated by my political views and I was terribly offending them, so I figured I would come to a place like this, where all opinions are respected (hopefully!)

I was a liberal throughout my early youth until about 6 months ago when I realized that a lot of aspects of liberalism are very contradictory in my opinion. Environmentalists "want to save the earth", yet I don't see mass suicides taking place anywhere. The ozone layer would supposedly heal itself if human beings were absent from the earth for approximately 50 years, but all I see is people with insecurities that like to comfort themselves by creating some sort of notion that they're actually making a difference. After explaining my idea that hardcore consumerism is the only way to truly and effectively bring down a government that's harming it's economic efficiency and political reputation after each drop of oil is transferred into energy, to a liberal friend of mine, she replied "how do you sleep at night?", to which I replied "in my wal-mart brand underwear, snug and comfortable".

I assume that since my opinions are neither liberal nor conservative, many people may wonder where I fit in such a restricted voting process. Well, I'll have you know, in 2008 i'm voting Republican. I believe that the only way to fuel the wonderful powerhouse that is my country, we must have war. Remember the 50's? I don't. But those of you who are old enough to remember back then, it was a time of lush self-indulgant consumerism. Thanks World War Two! I want a period like that again, so I think we should just make the war in Iraq bigger. I don't think enough Americans are dying for our country. How can I support our troops if they're all sitting around here. Go over there and fight fight fight!

Well that's about it for me. I don't think I violated any rules. I can't wait to meet all you exciting new people!

Greetings from the supervolcano in northern Ixtlan. The Neo-Pagan Social Libertarian has arrived- if for no other reason than to balance things out.
Isn't that right, Hammershot???

Hopefully I'll find a higher level of intellect here than what I've seen in some other forums- it's hard to fly like an eagle when you're surrounded by turkeys!

OK, time to browse around and check this place out.

Hello, Malvolio. Pleasure to meet you, and thankyou for the welcome!

Diplomacy? Well, I try! . But if diplomacy means sugar coating the issues and not calling a spade a spade and not telling it like it is then it's B.S. in my book. I'm not that kind of guy! I'm fully capable of following an opponent right on down though I don't generally go beyond what I would call a raucous civility. A post of mine of what the logo for the Republican Party should be changed to got me thrown in the doghouse for a week in another forum- and I didn't use any vulgar or profane language at all! But it was in a predominately redneck, Christian conservative pro- Bush forum so I wasn't too surprised!. I reckon it's just that perverse streak in me that loves to challenge opposing forces. I hate preaching to the choir and love rattling the cages of my opposition!
But that's just me!

Greetings, jpsartre, and thankyou also for the welcome!

First off I'd like to share with you something I've come to call the Georgian Redneck Rule #1

"Don't ever let something scare you so bad that it makes you hurt yourself"

I also believe that...

"Smart people have a lot of answers but wise people know which questions to ask."

and...

"Smart people learn from their own experiences but wise people learn from the experiences of others."

And my favorite...

"Those that forget the past are condemned to repeat it."

None of these are my original thoughts or words- they are adopted from wisdom imparted to me from my fellow sojourners when I departed from my previous life to follow them and entered into this one.

More will be revealed!

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hello All,

Just feeling my way around the site. I'm a refuge from another poli BB, where after several years, I just couldn't continue because it had degenerated into little more than a personality slugfest. I'm all for spirited exchanges and free speech, but I prefer it to be about issues.

Politically, I consider myself a moderate, being socially progressive and fiscally more conservative. I hope I can fit in well with you folks and look forward to hearing everyone's thoughts and opinions.
