Hi everyone

This looks like a very enjoyable forum. Intelligent conversation, friendly and a diverse set of topics. My kinda place so I registered a couple of days ago. I'm looking forward to engaging in the posts and hopefully I can add some value to the forum.

Due to my line of work, contract engineer, my home is a moving target. I move around between Phoenix, Los Angeles and San Francisco. At the moment I am in SF so that's my home of record for today.

My politcs are centroid of the 2 major parties but not what you would call a fence-sitter. I vote on issues and not the person and like to think of myself as a free thinker, for lack of a better term.

My spare time is usually spent on the beach or nearby. Indoors it would be writing fantasy novels, composing music and of course, message boards.

Areas of interest include the cultures and religions of China, Nepal, Tibet and their neighboring areas as well as both American and Russian history. On the western civilization side of the ledger I enjoy reading the genre of 1984, Fahrenheit 451, It can't happen here..... Elsewhere, I enjoy most of the Russian authors, hard reading notwithstanding, and in particular, Tolstoy.

My musical interest include rock to rap to rythmn to ridiculous. If it has a beat, more than likely I will enjoy it.

Being a youngin' is not something I can lay claim to -- in fact I have retirement in my sites and I'm locked on. Possibly 3 more years and the workforce will simply have to get along without me. When that times comes, you will find me riding the great railroads of the world.The Orient express (what's left of it) and the Siberian Express will be the first two and from there I'll play it by ear. I'll be the guy in the club car enjoying a drink of national choice and whatever else is legal under the local laws. My laptop will be in front of me receiving the latest words of a fantasy novel. So if you see me, make sure you stop and say hello.

I am a 39-year-old father of three. I have a wonderful wife and work as a computer technician.

For many years I was a very militant person. My father instilled in me a love for things violent and aggressive. I spent a great deal of my life indulging in this mentality.

This changed in several ways during 2001. First, I read a book called Ethics for a New Millennium by the Dalai Lama and then the events of September 11th happened. Both incidents forced me to confront the possible ramifications of my thinking patterns.

Since that date I have changed many things about myself. My current interests are in philosophy and ethics. I have dedicated myself to learning a new better way to be. At least, for me.

I consider the current problems to be a human one. I do not consider myself either liberal or conservative. Nor am I a libertarian. I want to see humans develop themselves and hopefully create a better way of solving things than current methods. I believe that the greatest power that humans have is their intellect. I also believe that we can evolve to the point where intense conflict is not the only way to solve problems.

Religiously I am a Universalist and Deist. The greatest philosophical contributors to my outlook are Teilhard de Chardin, Dalai Lama and the Stoic teachings of the Roman philosophers.

I'm a 22 year old guy, living right outside Washington, DC in the town of Reston. I'd like to think I'm pretty middle of the road. My dad is a mega democrat (he calls Bush a crypto-Nazi) and my mom is a republican (she calls my dad a crypto-Nazi), so I've been raised seeing both sides. I'm not really out to change other peoples opinions, more like calling out a lot of the bullshit I see people say on this site, so that we can all see the truth a little bit clearer. Other than that, I check this site from work, so I'm not around on weekends....hmm....hobbies include producing hip-hop for local artists and ignoring other countries (sorry, had to play into my own american stereotype).
