I think that most people in the US ask the same questions as they do in OZ. What do you do for a living? Even here in the auto capitol of the world, the Motor City, we don't ask what kind of car a person drives.

And I wouldn't even know how to answer such a question. I have 4 cars presently and one more on the way.

No, it just means that you've been around long enough to be a pain in our arses, just like the real US Senators.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi y'all,

I'm from Glasgow in Scotland. I recently married the 'one' 'schmooze'

I used to be a real 'rightie' or should that be 'wrongie' but the war in Iraq has changed me.

I love rugby union and MotoGP (I used to play and I own a Fazer 600)

I support Scotland in all that they do and Glasgow Celtic is my 'soccer' team

This is really lame

Hello Foz, I'm in Melbourne but on one side of the family I have Scottish ancestry, Clan Sutherland.

I'm hoping to visit Scotland in 2008!

p.s. I'm a little bit embarrassed as I heard the other day that I have some English ancestors as well!

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi Enigma,

Don't forget to bring an umbrella! PM me before you come and I'll be more than happy to give you some local insight. It's a beautiful country - with great people - you'll have a fantastic time.

My sister lives in Sydney and is due her second child in June. My wife and I are heading over for a month over Christmas and New Year though I've been before (for a week). Loved it and really looking forward to spending some proper time there. My brother in-law is really into sailing (does Sydney - Hobart race every year) so I'm hoping to spend New Year in a yacht watching the fireworks at the Harbour Bridge and drinking a couple(?) of VBs. Happy Days!

That is so kind of you, Foz. Same here if you get to Melbourne, although, sorry but I don't have a car.

Foz, I can't imagine anything better than spending New Year in Sydney just as you describe! It sounds wonderful but doesn't begin to describe the reality!!! I always head for the Harbour when I get to Sydney. Last time I was there my friend, Tethys, arrange for us to go out on the Harbour with a learn-to-sail mob - absolute magic! It would have to be the most beautiful harbour in the world - which is just as well, because the city itself is crappy!

If yu want to visit a beautiful city, with fabulous shopping and first class restaurants, come to Melbourne, with a side trip to Ballarat! Some of the Victorian Buildings in Ballarat make one's mouth drop open.

(But those VBs yuk! change over to Carlton Draught! My dad drank VB - a side affect of this was that he could be sure I wouldn't pinch his beer on a hot day) I'm more into wine - try any of our DeBortelli or Brown Bros wines. Then again there are the Barossa Valley wines...the Hunter Valley near Sydney has some good stuff...but ummm! you must try some of the dryer of the Tassie wines...Margaret River is getting a good rep...oh! hell, just drink it!

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Enigma,

We get some good aussie wines over here, though I can never remember the names. We plan to go to Hunter Valley and the Blue Mountains if we can. I will certainly try Carlson Draught when I'm over though VB when compared to Tennants (the local brew) is nectar. Great whiskey though if you fancy a tipple - Edradour is a good one if you have the chance. The opera house is incredible, we have our own version (known as the armadillo!) but it is not as impressive. I went to a zoo across the water from the opera house, it was weird seeing a giraffe walking past with the opera house in the background!

Happy Days!

Ditto here. I'd love to go visit the land of my ancestors and see the Beaufort Castle in Beauly, Inverness-shire.

It appears that everyone has a little English in them.

Not me.

Infact none of my ancestors are foreigners as far as I know, and they can be traced more than 1000 years back in this country.
