Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hello, I am new here. Let me just say that I am here to contribute my views and opinions, especially on IMMIGRATION and MULTICULTURALISM- the two of the biggest diseases plaguing the United States.
I am from Syracuse, New York. |

Your name does make me a bit weary of what's to come, though. We don't get too many white supremicists in here, if that's what's meant by your name.

We descendents of immigrants still have a long way to go before the indigenous Australians can say that our entry into their country has been a success for them! Welcome, I haven't been here for long myself, but I've noticed that the large majority of the people already here are very friendly and helpful. The beauty of the place is that you can meet people here from all over the world. Just like New York City it's the best place to meet people from many nationalities and backgrounds! Broadens the mind, although if you sit here typing for too long it will broaden, and sometimes, numb, your bum! By the way, my best friend is French. She lives in Sydney.

I'm probably more pleased to be born in Australia than the fact that one of my grandfathers was German. I have at least four nationalities in my background so I'd be spinning like a top trying to keep check on them all. On the other hand, nothing wrong with keeping in touch with your roots. I'm hoping to visit Scotland in 2008 - that seems to be the part of my ancestry which calls to me the most.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
I'm new here. I recently moved to the DC area from the Greater Detroit Metropolitan area.
Although I've lived in a bunch of different places in my life, I love the attitudes of the people of the Great Lakes and Midwest areas. Chicago is one of my all-time favorite cities where I've lived with DC a close second. I'm quickly giving politics more attention in my life - perhaps that comes from living in our nation's capital now or maybe because of the developing intolerance I now observe between the two parties. I no longer discuss politics freely because of this intolerance. I've experienced personal insults and attacks at social gatherings. So, with my new job and location, I avoid political discussions altogether. I'm thrilled to have an outlet for my opinions. I love to hear intelligent and logical counterpoints to my views so that I may alter my opinion. I welcome those kinds of counterpoints but give no credibility to those who generalize, pigeon-hole, attack, name-call, etc. when my or anyone's view is presented. I love dogs, sailing, Big 10 football, beer, hanging out with friends, and a good thunderstorm (miss those Midwest boomers!). |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi, I'm new here.
I've been busy working for the past 30 years, here and there but now in Phoenix, and I've just come to a point in life where I can take some time off and look around a little. Looking for a more adult exchange of views than I've experienced in various workplaces. Mostly plan to listen (read comments), but I may weigh in a little if I think I've got something to contribute. Interested in peace and environmental issues. |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hey Everybody,
My name is Shane and I come here from the MetClub boards and PoliticalDiscussion.info . I'm 26 years old and I have Bachelor's Degrees in History and Political Science from the University of Houston. I'm working on my Master's Degree in History at the University of Houston-Clear Lake. I've had a few papers of mine published even though I really don't look like the scholastic type. I'm a registered Republican from the great state of Texas and am damn proud of it. :-D I voted for George W. Bush and am not ashamed to say it. I'm pro-life, pro-capital punishment, I support the war in Iraq, and I'm an adamant believer in Gay/Lesbian/Transexual rights. I'm a straight member and ally of the Gay Lesbian or Bi-Sexual Alliance (GLOBAL) at the University of Houston. When it comes to hobbies, I'm into anime (particularly Gundam), science fiction (I'm a big Star Trek fan), video games, wrestling (I'm a huuuge DX fan), history, political science, blogging, I'm a drummer, I play softball, I'm a huge Metallica fan (of course), and I'm probably the biggest Astros fan on this forum now. :-P I work at the M.D. Anderson Library at the University of Houston and do some part time stuff at ADV Films. I guess that's pretty much me in a nutshell. I look forward to discussing politics with you guys. |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi, my great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-etc. grandparents immigrated to these shores in 1732. Today, I am the offspring of German/French/Polish/Irish/Scottish/British/Dutch/Danish/etc. cultures, making me both an immigrant & a multiculturalist. And I know I'm not unique. Therefore, I guess all save the Native Americans are diseases plaguing this land. However, I can't afford ship fare back to Europe. Can I borrow some funds from you?
