Neither. One is punishment of the innocent; the other is punishment of the guilty.
Welcome. We could use some more capitalists here. We're being overrun by socialists.

I have the same problem, the other way around. It's a big dilemna for me. Pro-choice, anti-death penalty.

My view there is an oxymoron, too. Pro-choice, anti-death penalty also.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Call me the rare person.

Anti-death penalty, anti-abortion (except in very rare cases, such as for the health of the mother; rape; incest).

Sanctity of ALL human life, and all that. . .

Maybe it's being a man that it works for you. Personally I would never have an abortion. But I just can't see making it illegal. I don't think government should tell a woman what to do with her body.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Since this is the "introduce yourself thread", I guess I should introduce myself:

I am a native of Flanders (currently unfortunately still part of Belgium).
By training I am a historian.
My hobbies include reading (lots of history and non-fiction, but also literature); movies; fine dining and dirnking; travel (mostly Europe and the US); nature walks.
Politically I would classify myself as a conservative (my political affiliation in Flanders is Christian-Democrat). In international politics I am a confirmed Atlanticist but also in favour of better European integration.
All the rest of my many talents and faults will - I hope - become clear in the future.
I am looking forward to spirited debate.

Not rare. I fully agree with you on the "anti-death penalty and anti-abortion" part.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

I don't think any man should have a say in any abortion discussion.
When men get pregnant then they have a right to speak.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

The child is every bit as much the man's as it is the woman's. Why shouldn't he have a say?

BTW, Artevelde, good to have another historian here, though I'm sure we will disagree politically quite a bit. I look forward to learning from you, though.

Welcome. You come from an area very near and dear to many patriotic Americans.
