Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi Everyone,
I'm a 37 year old male from Austin Texas. I've been a webmaster and network administrator for the past 10 years and still love my job. I've been paying very close attention to political issues lately and came here for more information and to see what otheres were saying.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
I'm 25 year old Swedish male. I've lived in a few different places around the country and presently live in a small town part of the larger Stockholm region.
I guess like many here I'm somewhat of an airchair politician, given that my political interest is not channeled in anything beyond discussion. I'm not the activist type, and I've never been a member of any particular political party. I want to the reserve the right to take an independant stand based on the issues at hand, and I feel that becoming a member of a party would subconsciously hamper that (I've seen it all too often). Ideologically I would characterise myself as being somewhere to the left of the centre. I read fairly often, generally politically oriented literature. I find it's a good way to pass time on the daily commute. My favourite authors in this field include, but are not limited to:
I work as a software engineer for a defence contractor. Programming has been a hobby since I started playing with BASIC on my C64, aged around 11, and I'm pleased to be able to do it for a living as well. That's all I can think of at the moment.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hi all,
I found this site a week or so ago when searching for opinions on the Nicholas Berg murder. Currently, I reside in Texas but I am a Canadian. My political philosophy has evolved over the course of my life. In high school I was very left leaning (maybe social democrat) with high opinions of international organization such as the UN or the Commonwealth. My idea of utopia had a completely planned world economy, one in which everyone could do whatever they wish. In undergraduate school I started to discover that the naivety of my youth. Socialism was not about people doing as they wish. It was about people doing as society wished. In graduate school I decided that there was more personal freedom in conservativism. After all, conservatives were not pushing social engineering legislation such as the American affirmative action plan, or Canada's push for enforced multiculturalism. Well it turns out that the "right" are equally likely to legislate individuals to conform to their ideal of society as the "left". Maybe the correct path was some compromise of "right" and "left". Seems reasonable ... not. Now you just have people trying to legislate every aspect of your life to the point where you can not do anything. I am a scientist by training and trade and a recently enrolled law student. Perhaps I could be labeled conservative and that would be correct to the point where legislation is involved. I have no desire to force you to do anything or pay for anything you do not support. If one had to create a label for me it might be something like "conservative evangelical Christian libertarian" Last edited by JSMILL; 05-20-2004 at 03:58 PM. |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
I am an 18 year old college student in Williamsburg, VA. I am currently enrolled in Thomas Nelson Community College but I plan and hope to transfer to The College of William and Mary after two years of comm. college. I aspire to teach Government and US History to high schoolers.
I enjoy watching professional sports, and I root for the Washington Redskins (football), the Florida Marlins (baseball), Philadelphia Flyers (hockey) and Sterling Marlin (NASCAR). I enjoy most types of music, mostly country music, but also classic rock, some modern rock, and if I'm feeling REALLY spunky, I'll turn on some hip hop. I consider myself to be a non-partisan conservative, very open on issues, and loving to all types of people. After all, I work at the College of William and Mary Bookstore, with lots of Democrats, homosexuals, and green party members. It's very healthy for me to be exposed to all these groups of people, and has taught me a lot. I look at everyone the same. My hobbies include sports, fishing, internetting, travel, and of course, news and politics.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Well,
I just joined yesterday so I wanted this to be my first post! I am a 41 and consider myself pretty much in the "center" when it comes to political thinking. I can be pretty liberal for some things but fairly conservative on others, so I guess that averages out... I been "lurking" for a while and finally decided to join this fine forum. I've lived in the Northwest part of the US for more than half my life, but was born and raised in Puerto Rico. |

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hello board. Im a 42 year old redneck from middle Tennessee so that automatically makes me a conservative but I havn't fallen off the right side of the map.
I'll be lurking some before I post much to find out where people are in the political spectrum. I will post a pre-emptive apology for my bad spelling at times and poor use of words. Hey, im a blue collar conservative redneck from Tennessee so what do you expect? I am an agnostic and will very seldom get into detailed religious debates unless commenting about fanatical Islamic jihadists. I watch NASCAR, football (TITANS), Shoot guns but don't hunt though I have no problem with those who do, fish sometimes, less than I would like to, and have made 800+ skydives until my back went out. Oh yeah. My name isn't really Beuford. Last edited by Beuford; 06-03-2004 at 04:56 PM. |

How far are you from Dickson County? Most of my kin on my Dad's side came through there at one time during the early years of Tennessee. Some Hudsons and Russells. Just curious. Welcome, and oh yeah, my name ain't Shooterman, either.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!
Hello everyone,
I've been looking for a site like this for some time. I'm glad to have found you. I'm 46, mom to a 20 year old and a 16 year old. Professionally I'm the CEO of a non profit health care corporation. I was raised in a Methodist, politically active, conservative family and turned out to be Bahai and middle of the road to liberal. I'm looking forward to the conversations. |
