Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

I'm a 34 year old from Germany.

I spend most of my time reading. I work in a human resources unit of some big company recruiting engineers.

- I'm against the death penalty
- I hate weapons
- I'm very liberal
- I'm not religious
- I think we have to take better care of the environment
- Animals have rights too
- politics is all about gaining and keeping power

That's all I can think of right now.

Hello dorian...a warm welcome to the forum. I'm from Australia.

I like your views...I also oppose the death penalty, I believe in our common humanity, I think peace is possible...I have a fascination for the oceans and for the universe out there...

I'll look out for your posts...it's a good place.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

I am La Lorientaise - meaning the girl from Lorient

Lorient is small, teeny town in south Brittany, France where I studied for my Erasmus year.

I am actually Irish but consider France to be my second home. That doesn t mean I like all the French and agree with everything they do but I accpet they have the right idea on something.

I am 22 have a 1.1 degree in European Studies. I am working in a European Institution right now (wont say which one)

English is my mother tongue and I am fully fluent in French.

My political views are extremly conservative by European standards and Yet very liberal by American

I love Sarkozy yet hate Bush with a passion. I am pro europe but there are some elements I strongly disagree with

I love the idea of a public health service and minimum wage (very European) yet hate the idea of social welfare and layabouts

The reason I joined this forum was I was looking for a debate about the Borat movie while I was waiting to go abroad to Caen in Normandy. I did a search found this and been hooked since.

Don t post so often but when I do am hooked for days.

Welcome. If you like debating liberals, this is a target-rich environment.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Welcome BoogyMan...nice to see a bloke speaking so nice of his wife and kids. I don't like labels, but apparently I'm a liberal. Although, in Australia, put the "l" in upper case and, presto, you are a conservative!

Are you feeling a little bit outnumbered here, JP?

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi, I'm a Londoner who "met" one of your mods (Crystal) on another forum. She kindly invited me over. I help run a small specialist forum myself (world politics, digital liberty, electronic community issues). Politically I'm on the left - broadly democratic socialist (with Stalinist tendencies lol). I've a background in classical music, philosophy, medical ethics and trade unions. This site looks great.

YAY! I'm so glad you decided to post and WELCOME!! Man, I didn't know all that about your background. I suspected the broadly democratic socialist part and then philosophy with the article you linked to and then I went and started a thread on

Whoa, Traveler...when did you go from being "in love" to being a "woman hater"?

Cheers for the welcomes (everyone). They make a difference. Some forums don't bother, leaving newbies hanging like washing in cyberspace. Glad you liked the essay. It's old hat now - published 37 years ago - but still resonates. I may not post here often - don't be offended, it's obviously a brilliant site - just popping in occasionally to argue with a neocon. I assume you have some I can play with?

lol just answered my own question. But maybe a hardline Texan conservative finds neocons too anarchistic and socially liberal?
