Or maybe we could get a huge slab of beef and pretend its duck
Hi Cane, welcome to the forum from this side of the world.

I don't like duck either. Or kangaroo.

I am a 57 year old father of three. retired naval officer. lifelong democrat. currently work in facilities management for a large northeastern utility.

I am about three years away from my second retirement, at which time, my wife and I will hopefully move to San Miguel, Mexico and really work at becoming human BEINGS as opposed to human DOINGS.

my interests on sites like this are primarily middle eastern foreign affairs.

my interests away from here are golf, bridge, choral singing, gourmet cooking.

OMG...I've just become more serious at bridge. It's fascinating.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hey, my name is David Harkins and I"m a political science major currently attending the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.

I have some strong right views on a lot of issues, however, am not completely on one side of the scale. My voting and decisions sway based on my own personal beliefs, not those of one party of the other. I have no problem crossing party lines, and personally think the majority of politicians need to start doing so, despite the political pressures.

I enjoy politics a lot, as well as good debate.

I'm looking forward to greatly enjoying this site.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Welcome to you both, maineman and Xieon.

There is a good mix of political views on this board.

Also, we have people from different nations here, which makes it all the more dynamic and interesting.

See you around.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hey all,
I'm a 28yr old man, recently married and a lifelong Democrat with views leaning strongly to the left, but with curiously right-ish tendencies in a few very specific areas. A resident of Florida for well over a decade and a half I find myself starved for a political conversation where I'm not immediately swarmed and drowned out by the recitation-by-rote ultra conservative, ultra hawkish right wing crowd in my area. (Not that they're necessarily the majority, just the ones willing to shout so loud most others would rather not discuss politics than get into another aggression-laden conflict)

With that in mind, I'm looking forward to engaging in some lively political debates that are about the exchange of ideas not the comparison of who has the stronger lungs.

As someone partially disabled due to certain tragedies in my life I have I think a rather non-mainstream perspective. I don't get out a great deal as a severe chronic pain sufferer, but it does leave me with a great deal of time to study the issues and the positions of their proponents.

My interests include: Politics (of course), Writing, Horror/Sci-fi/Fantasy films and books, Amateur naturalism, strategy games and my beloved wife

Looking forward to getting to know many of you, I'm sure this will be an interesting and positive experience.

The reason they are shouting so loud is because they are old and maybe Jewish. I mean, you do live in Florida

And congrats on the marriage...when you find someone, it's a beautiful thing.

How about fastest typing fingers? I can't make any promises other then this...if you stick around long enough (thick skin required), I promise, you will come across a few people you really dig.

If you need your account settings adjusted in any certain way, let me know and I'll see what I can do. I want the site to be user friendly for everyone.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Welcome Raven 1!

I also have a disability – born “legally” blind - and I understand exactly what you mean about how it seems to give one a different perspective…anyway, Crystal has offered to adjust your account to assist you to navigate the board. She did this for me when I joined almost a year ago. I use a screen reader/speech synthesiser program to access the forum. The functions Crystal enabled for me made a big difference. Marc made further adjustments later when new features were added to the board which interfered with my screen reader, JAWS. I would urge you to take up Crystal’s offer.

And it is much appreciated, Crystal. The readiness of Marc, yourself and the other mods to make this place accessible, and to assist me whenever I needed it, has allowed me to take part activley on this board. Thank you so much.

First. Thanks for your service to the country. You're probably one of the few retired military Democrats that I've seen. I was beginning to think they were a myth.

Welcome. If you're a conservative, you'll find this a target-rich environment.

My sympathies on your health issues, but not on your politics. I'm slightly to the right of the John Birch Society.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi All,

My name is Eric, I am serving out the last of my career in the military - not much more than a year until retirement, and the beginning of a second career.

Overall, I am pro-America, pro-capitalism and free trade, very attached to individual liberties, and I promote personal responsibility. I guess that doesn't exactly make me a Democrat, liberal, progressive, or whatever they're calling themselves this week, but not all my views fall in lock step with those of typical conservatives and libertarians either.

I am no stranger to political discussion on the internet, but until I'm no longer a stranger here, I look forward to meeting you all.

Re: The Introduce Yourself thread!

Hi All,

My name is Chris, I'm 32 and hail from a small town in East Texas. I am a father of a 4 yr. old little boy and currently work in the I.T. field. My hobbies are of course computers, traveling and the occasional sporting events.

Politically, I am a reformed staunch Republican and have migrated over to the Independent side. I consider myself a very mild conservative but I keep an open-mind to other viewpoints as well.

Looking forward to exchanging some friendly banter every now and again with you fine folks
