Too many republicans and independants looked at that man behind the curtain and they didn't like what they saw. Traditional republicans don't regard homophobia as a legitimate platform plank and they don't like the increased secrecy and increasingly intrusive government snooping. Right wing christian fundamentalists aren't particularly fond of tax cuts for rich people and massive deficits. And neither part of this suddenly schizophrenic party likes what is happening in Iraq.
They are all republican policies (gay marriage ban, patriot act additions, tax cuts, funding iraq war). Voters have shown that they prefer democrat policies.

I have always been right wing, libertarian, but I am happy with any outcome from a democratic system, including this one. I'm sincerly happy to see the people get what they want.

What is with people insulting each other on this board? Seriously, have some of you have any tact whatsoever? If you re-read the original statement I applied my response to, it stated something to the effect of Bush always getting what he wants. I made a point that he doesn't, according to the results of this election. OBVIOUSLY, I didn't mean Bush was up for election. Sheesh
