Re: Cheney censors global warming facts

When Boxer, et al investigate this allegation and if they find it to be true, then the title of the thread will have some merit. Now it has none.

Re: Cheney censors global warming facts

It's not like the White House is refusing to acknowledge the facts, by doing ridiculous things like refusing to open emails from EPA scientists, so they can say they were never informed about the facts behind global warming.

Oh, wait a minute, I take that back
http://www.nytimes.com/2008/06/25/washington/25epa.html

Because if they were informed that greenhouse gases were pollutants, then they would be legally bound to do something about it. So they acted like the dignified people they are, they refused to open the email, put their hands over their ears and chanted "nah nah nah, I can't hear you, what are you saying nah nah nah, nope I never heard about greenhouse gases"

I can't speak for "righties" but I can say that your suggestion wouldn't prove that the premise is bogus. Even supposing Cheney did have some commitment to the environment, that wouldn't really apply as evidence that his Office didn't seek to manipulate Congressional testimony related to greenhouse gases and public health. And, since those examples you seek are most likely nonexistant, I want to note that their nonexistance doesn't act as evidence that Cheney's Office did manipulate or censor testimony.

I can't tell exactly what the premise of the thread is, but going by the title, it seems to be that "Cheney censored global-warming facts," which is bogus because the thread provided nothing to back up such an assertion.

LOL!!! If they don't open the email then they don't have to deal with it!

Although the Supreme court did say they are legally bound to do something about it.

But Bush and Cheney are the supreme leaders, the executive branch, above and beyond any other branches, above the law.

And we are letting them get away with it.

No, Sam, all three branches have power. Not the same power, but a balance.

If you have no confidence in the system on which the USA was founded and its ability to self-correct, I feel sorry for you.

When did I defend them? I merely pointed out that the article states that it's an accusation, and that libs will suck in and swallow anything any lib has to say, providing it's negative about the right.

This is an accusation. Until it's proven to be more than an accusation, the title of the thread is false and should be edited...

So not having a deep commitment equates to censoring?

How's that work?

What would be ideal is if the OP could provide examples of how Cheney has actually censored anything. Of course, we don't expect that, nor would we expect you to suggest it, so we won't hold our breath...

Seriously though, try explainning it to me, this should be good....

Don't you remember all the stories a few years back about how the Bush admin was censoring and changing the scientific documents about global warming? Well I'm not surprised it's happening again. Are you?

OK I guess you need more news stories on this particular science censorship.

Here they are.

Cheney wanted cuts in climate testimony
By H. JOSEF HEBERT – 8 hours ago

WASHINGTON (AP) — Vice President Dick Cheney's office pushed for major deletions in congressional testimony on the public health consequences of climate change, fearing the presentation by a leading health official might make it harder to avoid regulating greenhouse gases, a former EPA officials maintains.

When six pages were cut from testimony on climate change and public health by the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention last October, the White House insisted the changes were made because of reservations raised by White House advisers about the accuracy of the science.

But Jason K. Burnett, until last month the senior adviser on climate change to Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Stephen Johnson, says that Cheney's office was deeply involved in getting nearly half of the CDC's original draft testimony removed.

"The Council on Environmental Quality and the office of the vice president were seeking deletions to the CDC testimony (concerning) ... any discussions of the human health consequences of climate change," Burnett has told the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee.

Don't be so modest, you like bashing the troops, women who take care of their own finances etc, you're much more than just a Bush basher.

They've been censoring the science for 8 years!

Why were 6 pages cut from the report?

Here's a story from a year ago -
Quote:
The report states that "by controlling which government scientists could respond to media inquiries, the White House and agency political appointees suppressed dissemination of scientific views that could conflict with administration policies."
ABC News: Did Bush Administration Censor Science?

The White House has been censoring NASA.

Quote:
This government, at the behest of its oil company contributors, has been told not to put out information about global warming, not to allow the scientists to talk about their expertise with the press, about the connection between global warming and hurricanes. That happened at NOAA. There’s been pressure on Dr. James Hansen at NASA.
Democracy Now! | Censoring Science: Inside the Political Attack on Dr. James Hansen and the Truth of Global Warming

Didn't you guys hear about this?

This is Cheney's M.O.

Here's one from 2006.

Quote:
As a government scientist, James Hansen is taking a risk. He says there are things the White House doesn't want you to hear but he's going to say them anyway.

Hansen is arguably the world's leading researcher on global warming. He's the head of NASA's top institute studying the climate. But as correspondent Scott Pelley first reported last spring, this imminent scientist says that the Bush administration is restricting who he can talk to and editing what he can say. Politicians, he says, are rewriting the science.
Rewriting The Science, Scientist Says Politicians Edit Global Warming Research - CBS News

What a coincidence!

How can you people defend such a dastardly duo?

I do believe we are defending the process, not any person.
