But since the current US Administration is soooo far "out of the mainstream" the "new" German government only changed the sound in German-US relations... since eventhough the opposite side of the political spectrum gained a strong role in government, there are still few similarities with the current US foreign policy.

For example: Eventhough the Green Party is no longer part of the German Government, Fighting Climate Change and reducing CO2 emissions is a bigger objective in German domestic and foreign policy than ever before.
I may well have confused her with another party member..

Isn't there coalition between the CDU and the Green Party in some of your bundesland? There could some surprising coalitions in the future if the SPD is continuing its downfall in popular surveys [I must admit that I do not like that].

Re: Obama & Europe

So why didn't the MSM give McCain the same level of coverage when he went to Toronto(all his campaign could afford) and spoke to a throng of dozens?

It's all about the TV. Obama is an empty suit. A circus clown. He can shoot a basketball and people faint at his rallies;

Reminds me of Bill Clinton. He got up there and played the sax and you'd think the man had walked on water. Obama smiles, speaks about.....nothing....and the clueless slobber over themselves. I would hope America realizes this isn't an Idol vote. We ain't voting for the best singer, the most attractive TV personality.

This man will be the man making decisions, actually affecting the western world. Obama couldn't manage a bowel movement after a night of heavy drinking.

But he can't be worse than the current administration..

More than that, it seems like a wave of hope for change and some people really get enthusiastic when speaking of Obama - I never experienced that in any other US Election before.

What do you think about Europe's enthusiasm with Obama? Is it actually relevant for Americans what Europe thinks of your Administration ?
Yes, of course it's relevant. It always will be. Those relations are extremely important.

Ironically, Obama is an isolationist and a protectionist. Are Europeans concerned about that? You should be.

The part I do not trust is the extreme emotion and the dramatic mood swings, and what appears to be the lack of interest in his policies. Europeans seem to like him, which is an emotion. But we will have to live with his left-wing government and his plans for huge tax increases and huge increases in government spending, as well as the avalanche of regulations that accompany left-wing governments.

The infatuation is strange to me. But yes - it is certainly relevant.

Yes - and the word "emotion" is important. Emotions change, sometimes very quickly.

It is likely Obama will win, but a lot can happen before November. What if he is not elected? Then anti-Americanism will be even worse. It's very troubling to see this level of infatuation.

All of the European countries are right now enjoying a terrorist free nation because the Americans and Brits have taken the terrorists to task and have eliminated most of them. We are still working on it without their help. Remember the Spanish trains getting blown up? That scenario hasn't happend since then has it? Why? Because the Bush administration has taken the terrorist war to their camp/training ground. Iraq and Afghanistan has been and will continue to be the battle ground with the war against terrorism. Right now, Iraq is almost terrorist free. Afghanistan will be terrorist free within a few years.

I think you're wrong. Most European countries have adopted legislation which allows them to convict people plotting to commit terrorist acts, and there have been very good results in getting the terrorists, especially in Germany and Spain where multiple groups are now either in jail or being watched closely.

I am truly convinced that such actions have a much more positive effect on the security on both sides of the Atlantic than invading a country and shooting at everyone who fights back.
