I truly love this forum. Whenever I get optimistic about human evolution I come here. Gets rid of that feeling in just a few minutes. Just a few minutes a day keeps me grounded in the fact that significant population of the members of my gender and even more significant population of the members of my species aren't very much evolved from homo neanderthalis.

So you are more evolved??? Do you have any super powers? Are you an X-men?

Seriously, you need to come here to figure that out? I can figure that out when I still find fart jokes funny.

I'm 47 years old.

In those 47 years, I've never met a single person who's made themselves sick; not to mention making their daughter(s) sick, who's ever succumbed to any of that bullshit.

Sure, I'm sure it happens. But it'll be a chore convincing me that it's an epidemic that requires a "council"...

Women are the largest demographic on the planet.

I'm not saying a council is needed (nor am I saying a council is not needed). I do feel that there is a problem with violence against women and children in any civilized culture, and i am in favor of addressing it by whatever means are necessary.

That has little to do with how "minority" status is determined. It often deals with actual number of that demography in a given workforce.

You're not sure if a council is needed, but you're certain that we need to address it by "whatever means" necessary?

I have this incredible super power given to me by the forces of evolution. Its called a brain. I use my brain to think about things instead of acting from blind emotion and allowing paranoid fear to blind me. In this manner I am most definitely more evolved than a lot of people on this planet who only use their brain as a means to keep their skull from collapsing.

Do both people have the same total number of years of experience? Woman 1 working 10 years with a five year break should earn less then woman 2 who worked for the last 10 years because .... ????

In one position I discovered a woman with the same position as I, who had been there a little longer then I and put in just as many hours per week was earning decidedly less then I was. Why was this ?

The entire diet industry is geared towards preying on an unrealistic body image. I know women who will enter weeks long depressions and starve themselves whenever they think they've gained too much weight. I've watched mothers tear their daughters apart for being "too fat" when they most certainly were not . Later the same mothers will tear the daughters down as they mature and vaguely become competitors for male attention. It's sick, it's warped and it most certainly happens.

It's just a small part of it all.

What you've just described is a psychological problem, not a diet problem. I know plenty of people who've been successful with a myriad of different diets...

Yup it is a psychological problem related to image based on unrealistic expectations that society has in the main accepted as normal for women. For some reason women continue to buy into it.

I've heard girls in the 3rd grade talking about their "diets" and worrying about becoming fat. It's an insidious thing that tears down self respect and gets in the way of other pursuits.

I don't pretend to know the best way to address it, but i know it needs addressing.

Education and previous experience? Better self promotion?

My co-worker was about 20 years older then me and female, she was in the workforce when I was still in highschool. She was just as talented and capable as I was. I threatened to quit if the disparity wasn't alleviated in some manner. My co-worker got a raise, as did I over the 4 or so years following that. A work place where merit and performance are rewarded regardless of ones sex and background is a workplace we should all strive for.

Maybe she wasn't very smart. I would never accept that. SHE should have been the one to threaten to quit. NOT you.

If it was me, with just the partial info that you gave me, I would have gone to HR, then to my lawyer.

But again... that's just me.
