Why is Michelle Obama's Garden getting so much air time?

Really, why? Maybe my neighborhood is different than the rest of the US. I have oranges, pineapples, grapes, and bananas in my yard. And a damn cashew tree that I hate. My wife grows peas, beans, tomatoes, lettuce, and peppers every year.

My neighbor has mangoes and avocados, among other fruits, along with some of the same vegetables we grow. I have friends with other fruit trees and vegetables. We all trade fruits/vegetables all the time. I even have one friend who makes "limoncello", "orancello", and "tangercello" with his fruit.

Do other people have fruit and/or vegetables that they grow and eat? Have gardens really been replaced in the rest of the US?

The same way her fashion statement is getting so much attention, as reported by media, who are clearly wearing blinders.

I personally think that her fashion statement is "okay" at best.

As for the garden, heck, it just a garden.

When the previous first ladies indulged in their hobbies, it went totally over-looked by the press and world at large.

Anything at all to do with the Obamas, becomes totally exaggerated by the koolaid drinking media.

It is a case of "the emperor is not wearing any clothes". I however, will not buy into the hype with regard to the Obamas, because they are just "okay".

I am way too discerning for that.

Her garden (and her style) is naturally getting attention the same way feature articles in newpapers and on programs get attention - human interest, especially human interest of such a public figure.

Nancy Reagan's clothes made the press. Most everyone knows GHW Bush doesn't like broccoli because that made the press. Most everyone knows Clinton likes MickyDs because that made the press. Most everyone knows GW Bush liked Scotties because that made the press. Etc., etc.

Re: Why is Michelle Obama's Garden getting so much air time?

You are being distracted from what is really going on. By the time the sheeple figure out that something is wrong, they will be bought and sold and be slaves to the government. The education union has dumbed down everyone to the point that they can't understand anything more complex than an Ipod. Understanding anything governmental is left for the liberal doctorates.

I've been around for well over half a century, and this is the first time that I have actually been afraid the anti-Americans will succeed. Fascism is at your door, and you have absolutely no clue. READ! Saul Alinski is a good start to let you know where Obama is coming from. Jeremiah Wright, Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dohrn, et al are the defining truth of Obama. I'm truly sorry that USPO has become a liberal, radical left haven. It just proves that common sense is anything but common.

For the libs, wear your chains gracefully. As for me, I will die on my feet rather than serve on my knees. I have been free for too long to change.

You're deadset on seeing only the prove that fits your point of view (as are some liberals).

You're posting in a threat about Michelle Obama's garden that America is being led to a fascism regime because the education system is dumbing everyone down (the same system that you don't want to raise taxes for to improve).

At the same time you name liberals anti-Americans.

You would indeed do well to read. Instead of reading that which confirms your beliefs, read that which you disagree with and try to find the grains of truth in it. They are there, approximately half (or in your case, aproximately 95%) of America disagrees with you for a reason.

Seeing as you clearly have no idea what fascism actually is, it's pretty clear who the clueless one is here.

A 'radical left haven'?

Thanks for the chuckle.

It's another agenda for the 'new world order' - to get us to enjoy gardening, appreciate fresh foods, and to get outside in the fresh air (or have your people get out in the fresh air). It's a conspiracy.

And that is bad why?

When I am home, I am always outside, always enjoying the sun, the sea, and the sand. I enjoy my fresh fruits and veggies. It is nice to be able to grab an orange off a tree while doing yard work in January, or grapes in September, or whatever else is growing at whatever time.

I guess by the responses I received, my neighborhood is different that the rest of the US. We have fruits and vegetables growing, and we eat them. I just didn't realize that the entire US traded gardens for the local produce stand or grocery store. When I lived in NY, we had corn, apples, grapes, lettuce, carrots, potatoes, etc. growing. Maybe I am just a freak?????

It's not. It's no big deal that Michelle Obama has a garden. The press will report on it because it is a feature/human interest story. That's my point.

I think it's a big joke. Who is she role modeling for? The working baby boomers already claim gardening as their number 1 hobby and have for several years now.

Yes, I will. At my age, I have little to lose. Plus, you know nothing of me, and have no idea of what I will fight for. You, on the other hand, have proven time and again that you will fight for nothing, and will bow your head to whatever "authority" claims your allegiance. You will suffer the consequences of your inability to see the big picture, hopefully after I am gone.

Just as an FYI, I have taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Who do you think will make that decision?
