BBC NEWS | Americas | Low-level flight panics New York Okay! I dunno if anyone has seen or read about this but I personally find this distasteful, inconsiderate, insensitive, a waste of tax-payer money and resources and just plain stupid. What the hell were these people thinking flying so low just for a photo op? Are they really that brainless and/or heartless to come up with an idea such as this? I personally think heads need to roll and the people behind this need to lose their jobs. You just don't do this sort of thing around people that were personally in NYC at the time of the 9/11 attacks. What are your thoughts? |

I don't know about you but I think their hysteria is justified! The problem I see is that no matter how it's spun, it was wrong of these people to do this. I just don't see why it was even thought up in the first place.

Re: Air Force One NYC Fly-over
I guess the last time this was done, it was done over Mount Rushmore. Apparently this sort of thing is not uncommon.
I imagine the fear among the chain of command was a security fear: make a huge announcement and it will tip off any baddies out to do us harm; don't make an announcement and rile up the citizens of NY for a day or two. It seems like they should have just made a real big announcement of it, and done it above the Chicago skyline, since that would have been a lot more fitting. |

But the govt and media spend a lot of time and money instilling fear and the "terror threat" into citizens lives. Remember, there's no profit in peace.

Seems like a pretty boneheaded move. And, I really don't like the whole idea of taxpayer funded photo-ops in general.

Re: Air Force One NYC Fly-over
Un-be-freakin'-lievable. Congrats, White House...you just pissed off a lot of your base.
Very inconsiderate. A friend's parents were evacuated out of a building in lower Manhatten today, and they had no idea what the reason was other than an air space violation. Her mother is still recovering from hip surgery. She's not doing so great tonight because of this. I just emailed the story to her. Last edited by Si modo; 04-27-2009 at 09:21 PM. Reason: typo |

Re: Air Force One NYC Fly-over
I first heard about this at lunch, and I thought it was a bad joke...Wow.
How can Obama top this one? Anyone? Oh, I know! He can lace our tax refunds with flour! I'm sure that'll cause mass panic...

Re: Air Force One NYC Fly-over
I heard that the Air Force was referring questions to the White House, and the White House was referring questions to the Air Force.
You just gotta' love that level of ineptitude...

Re: Air Force One NYC Fly-over
The story will be made clearer to us in the coming days, but what I don't get is how the Mayor of NY City didn't know about it after the military office insisted that state and local officials had been notified.
So who knew exactly, and why didn't they just broadcast it? |

Re: Air Force One NYC Fly-over
Because its misuse of at least 3 government aircraft.
