The right doesn't actually have a point other than the unconditional hatred of the President, which is why the GOP now opposes it's longstanding value that competition in the healthcare industry is the solution, not one single monopoly.

I believe that you are misunderstanding the opposition from the right. Competition with the government is never a level competition. The rules will be set to favor the government insurance entity, and then when the government entity
still fails to outperform the private sector, the government will throw billions of taxpayer dollars into that rat hole, all the while changing the rules so as to be even more favorable to the government insurance entity. It is the standard boilerplate history of how the government messes up whatever it is that they touch. Promises from politicians that this case will be different are not easily believed by those whose life and health are at stake (kool-aid drinkers not withstanding, of course).

As I said above, you misunderstand the opposition from the right. However, your characterization
does sound uncannily like the wars, and those on the left who once opposed them. Irony, is it not?

Unfortunately, since politicians really only care about getting reelected, the most effective way to lobby for one's cause is to be the squeaky wheel. With those on the right, at least they would have the integrity to continue to shout against government health care reform, were it ever to be proposed by politicians on the right.

That is an interesting opinion, but I see little basis in reality for one to hold it. A far truer prediction would be that if the Democrats don't do something fairly quickly to right this economy (which, of course, they can't), then they will suffer mid-term congressional losses. Further, if they don't manage to get this economy headed the right way by 2012, Obama will be out faster than you can say "Jimmy Carter".
