Gibbs; Obama prepared to be a one term president to pass health care

Fairly big statement here, basically admitting that Obamas going to push this even if it destroys him, politically. Very gutsy but not the wisest statement and can only weaken his position.

Hardly going to 'destroy' him.

I'd be shocked if it turned out to be true that every president since Washington hasn't said much of the same thing. All great men willing to take a sword in the gut for the good of the nation. LOL

It seems to have less weight coming from a community organizer who never got his hands dirty.

Thanks WT.

Towards Obama though. Certainly seems in his character to do something like that. Got to remember that this is also a prodigy of Ted Kennedy. I think he understands whats at stake here. I don't think he'll want to end up like Ted and work the rest of his life to make Healthcare reform a reality when they finally have the opportunity. I find it refreshing to hear Gibbs confirm this.

I have got to write a book.
Obama to raise 10-year deficit to $9 trillion

I think that saying "Obama's willing to be a one term President" is code-speak for "Obama realizes he's going to be a one term President".

It's pretty clear that most Americans don't want his plan. If he shoves it through, they're going to show him the door. He'll do it anyway, but he realizes his political wad will have been shot once he does...

It's a bullshit statement, period. I don't believe it for a second. The only thing it is is to appease the far left. Obama won't give up a second term over this but he'll be damned sure he won't make it seem like he put it all on the line but just couldn't beat the "big bad insurance corporations".

-edit- And couldn't beat the "mean old white Republicans" (never mind the republicans don't have control of jack shit).

yea well like the Clintons who were raised on the public tit from ages 28 on, he too has never had a real job and lives by the tit. Of course having been pres when hes out he'll fly all over and make mega cash bullshitting everyone else he hasn't bullshitted yet or like Carter after a few years of hiding his face he’ll win a peace prize so he can pretend to have a legacy.

Well, in this case, it looks like it would be for the bad of the nation. In any case, 1 term or 2 terms, this thing is going to help out the cronies more than Bush could have in 2.

There's going to have to be someone more astute than little miss Popp-off Palin to get him out.

He still loves power and he still wants to be in the spotlight. It's not really about the paycheck as he doesn't really need one anymore. He has many things he wants to push to turn America into a completely different nation. Too many things to do in one term. I will be running for a second term for all he's worth.

Re: Gibbs; Obama prepared to be a one term president to pass health care

If you really want to get really involved in ObamaCare?, Check this out!

280,000 Organizing for America supporters gathered online to huddle with the President at our National Health Care Forum last Thursday. With Congress about to return to Washington to make historic decisions on health insurance reform, the President chose this critical moment to speak directly to the OFA community. He reminded us of how far we've come and what we can accomplish together:
Remember one thing: Nothing is more powerful than millions of voices calling for change. That's how we won this election. You know this, and that's why since OFA launched its health reform campaign in June you've hosted 11,000 events in more than 2,500 towns in every single state and every single congressional district...I am absolutely confident that we can get this done, but I want everybody to remember, this has never been easy....We are not going to give up now. We are going to get this done.
Now it's up to us to take the next step. This week, we need to make sure every member of Congress heads back to Washington hearing overwhelming support for change. Lies and fear must not have the last word about the health reform America so desperately needs. So here's what you can do: Find and attend a "Let's Get It Done: Health Insurance Reform Now" event near you.

There are thousands of events, in every part of the country. In some places, we're rallying near local congressional offices to deliver signatures of support from voters. In others we're meeting in high-traffic areas to offer passers-by an easy way to get the facts and call Congress, thanking those fighting for reform and urging others to stand with their constituents. Wherever you live, you can find a powerful way to show Congress, the media, and our neighbors that the American people have one clear message about health reform: Let's get it done.

Thursday, the President made the stakes of reform crystal clear. He talked about how, with health care costs rising three times faster than wages, the cost of inaction is simply too high.

He explained how reform will guarantee competition and choice. He described the Insurance Guarantees that will protect every American from discrimination against pre-existing conditions, exorbitant charges, and arbitrary denials or reductions in coverage just when we need it most.

And he made plain his stance on the public option: "So let me just be clear: I continue to support a public option, I think it is important, and I think it will help drive down costs and give consumers choices."

But even the best plan only matters if it passes, and that's where we all have a critical role to play. As the President said:
And that's why what all of you do is so important, because people trust you -- your neighbors, your friends, fellow community members -- they trust you. They know you. And if you are presenting the facts clearly and fairly, I'm absolutely confident that we're going to win this debate. But we're going to have a lot of work to do and I'm grateful that you're willing to do it. Let's go get 'em.
Answer the President's call -- find and attend an event near you:
