as predicted - Gitmo detainees will use trials as “platform” to bash America

One of the Gitmo defendants’ lawyers confirms the obvious: The civilian trials for 9/11-linked enemy combatants are nothing more than a grand excuse to use our legal system to bash America and spread the jihadi virus on the world stage.

Lawyer: 9/11 defendants want platform for views - Yahoo! News

NEW YORK – The five men facing trial in the Sept. 11 attacks will plead not guilty so that they can air their criticisms of U.S. foreign policy, the lawyer for one of the defendants said.

Scott Fenstermaker, the lawyer for accused terrorist Ali Abd al-Aziz Ali, said Sunday the men would not deny their role in the 2001 attacks but "would explain what happened and why they did it."

The U.S. Justice Department announced earlier this month that Ali and four other men accused of murdering nearly 3,000 people in the deadliest terrorist attack in the U.S. will face a civilian federal trial just blocks from the site of the destroyed World Trade Center.

Ali, also known as Ammar al-Baluchi, is a nephew of professed 9/11 mastermind Khalid Sheikh Mohammed.

Mohammed, Ali and the others will explain "their assessment of American foreign policy," Fenstermaker said.

"Their assessment is negative," he said.

Some of these TRIED TO PLEAD guilty, but Obama wants to turn it into a circus!!

So sad...

Would it be interesting, to take the diatribe these terrorist spew in court, and compare them to what Obama's friend Rev Wright/Bill Ayers has said?

I wonder how similar they would be?

To be honest, I think the world needs to hear what went through their heads! The American people deserve that much. It's not so cut and dry as many on here would like to believe. I mean, the "big bad terrorist" didn't do it just in the name of Allah or because they hate our way of life. I personally want to hear why they did what they did and what assessments they came up with in terms of US foreign policy.

Who cares?

1) Is the world unaware of their warped ideology?

2) Why would we be afraid to let them say what they want and let it be heard for what it is? Do they have a convincing argument or something?

Again? Why? Bin Laden and his pal have explained this to you already. You know what they have to say.

You sound as if you think they have a valid point.

Don't think they won't be doing just that. When the right gets done with this Obama and Holder will wish they'd never been born. Granting these enemy combatants the rights of an America criminal trial is likely to be the primary reason that Obama is denied second term.

Unfortunately, there are many people who agree with their vews and/or sympathize.

Remember: it is very trendy right now to bash Americans. Sympathy for radical Islam is widespread. They are the new "Special Victim Group" of the far left.

It was a terrible idea to hold these trials in NYC. This is a perfect showcase for them.

No, don't bash America! I can't think of anything worse these guys could possibly do. We'll never recover!

This is a perfect example of the sheer lunacy that will make these trials so dangerous.

The "foreign policy assessment" of nihilistic killers will be taken seriously as an indictment of Americans.

The actual events of 9/11 are already being downplayed and minimized. The terrorists are increasingly perceived as victims.

It is impossible to stop this trendy stupidity.

Well, I'll answer my questions then....1) If anyone is not yet aware of what radical Islam represents then there are many other places to get informed than to read/watch the news about the KSM trial. 2) We don't have anything to fear in letting their argument be heard because reason does not back it. For those who would buy into it, I'm doubting that KSM's testimony or KSM's defense lawyers will be the things that sway them.

Lastly, let them speak out that they were not sorry for 9/11, that they hate America, and that we had it coming/deserved it etc. That's incriminating stuff. If watching the tape of him taking credit for 9/11 wasn't enough, maybe a confession right in front of the judge an jury will be.
