Fifty six percent of voters disapprove of the president's handling of health care.

On the very morning Senate Democrats claim to have reached a "broad agreement" on a health care bill that will allow Americans over age 55 to "buy" into Medicare, a new Quinnipiac poll shows just how little support the Senate efforts inspire among the American people.

Voters oppose the bill by 52% to 38%, and President Obama's handling of health care gets even more of a thumbs down, with 56% of those surveyed registering disapproval. By more than two to one, Americans say extending health care to the uninsured will cause their own costs to go up, and a plurality expect quality to decline as well. By 71% to 21%, voters don't think universal coverage is worth lower quality of care.

"It's a good thing for those pushing the health care overhaul in Congress that the American people don't get a vote. At this time, supporters are down 14 percentage points," says Peter Brown, assistant director of the Quinnipiac Poll.

The poll also reports that President Obama's personal approval rating has fallen to 46%, an all-time low. Among independent voters, only 37% now like the job he's doing. "Analyzed by religion, Obama gets a thumbs up from 32% of white Protestants, 42% of white Roman Catholics and 52% of Jews," says Quinnipiac. That last figure, largely predicated on Jewish concerns about Mr. Obama's Mideast policy and the economy, represents a shocking drop in Jewish support. Just over a year ago Mr. Obama won 78% of Jewish voters against John McCain.

Considering Congress is "handling health care" and not the president, I'd say 56% of voters are misinformed.

Yep, and his lack of leadership skills and experience was noted time and again when there was still time to pick Hillary or some other democrat. They stuck their fingers in their ears so they wouldn't have to hear any of it. Now they have a president who is slavishly copying George Bush, bowing to kings, hugging dictators and dissing America because he and his team of lackeys can't think of anything else to do.

So they flipped the pub. Opt. And are now going to cover a prg. Expansion 55 year olds, that they plan on shorting dollars and they say or did, doesn’t work?

I think the ldrshp. Question is valid here, do people really have any idea what they are up to anymore, congress explains but people have tuned out, (they pretty much hate congress), that’s Obamas job…hence….his polls are sinking and HC polls too.

Hangovers are never funny especially when the person involved (in this case the voting public) is still heaving while laying in their own puke.

Got to hand it to Obama though... it took Bush 8 full years and the help of 99% of the MSM to destroy the GOP. Obama has crashed the Democrats in 11 months and he had the MSM on his side.

I always knew that this would happen but... the speed at which it's happened... man takes your breath away.

How is all this hope and change working out for you guys?

LOL, not sure what you're talking about. Obama's approval ratings are on par with most previous Presidents. He's certainly not doing any better than his fore bearers, but he's hardly doing any worse.

And hate to break it to you, but the majority of folks in this country still currently favor the Dems over the Reps.

It amuses me how 4 Republicans can bounce each others paranoid lies back and forth until all of them are convinced they are real. Enjoy your fantasy boys, it's all you've got.

It's a part of partisanship that both sides of the aisle succumb to. I recall during the 2004 election, a lot of Democrats were quite convinced that Bush was going to be run out of office with pitchforks and torches. They liked throwing around fun phrases such as "America is waking up!" and all that jazz, almost in an effort to convince themselves that Bush would be a one term President and the Dems would come back into power and everything would be perfect again.

It didn't quite work out for them.
